I have seen this issue pointed out in several posts. While I am severely disabled & it is obvious now, I have MULTIPLE illnesses, several of them invisible. Just a few are Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Degenerative Disk disease, Arthritis, Sciatica, and more, including a rare brain disorder that causes my body to produce too much spinal fluid, which builds up on my brain. Some of the results of this are cognitive impairment, severe dizziness, & blindness. (I am almost legally blind, & this illness can cause complete blindness or severe impairment) I have gotten more dirty looks than I could ever count, parking in these spots. Even though I’ve had my placard now for about 7-8 years, & my doctor harassed me to GET one for almost 15 years! I refused for years because I didn’t feel like I was disabled enough. But now, even though I use a wheelchair 75% of the time, I STILL get dirty looks & nasty comments, even though it’s obvious I’m disabled. My husband can be unloading my wheelchair & I have actually been accused of using it as a ploy to park in disabled parking! I’m also now called lazy, liar, fat, etc., & even though I know I am legally & physically entitled to park in these spots, these people still make me feel bad. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, don’t say anything unless you know FOR SURE, 100%, that a person isn’t disabled! I know I see people who I know are not, but keep my mouth shut unless the person is running. (Sorry, I’ve never seen anyone disabled who runs! If they do they don’t need handicapped parking!) Just be careful...you don’t know what is going on inside someone’s body.
