more of a question, than a idea. if a person is showing a out of state hang tag on their Texas registered vehicle. Is that reportable?

We are military and move often. It has been very convenient and greatly appreciated that I am not required to jump through the hoops and red tape every single time we move. People with disabilities should not have to prove their disabilities over and over. Especially, during times like now, when I am having a hard time with my health. I would just not have the strength or the mobility to do all that myself making me dependent on others more often to keep my placard effective. The purpose is to assist and allow accessibility to those in need not hinder them further.

If I am from Michigan (and have a placard) and then I get in the car of my friend whose car has Indiana plates, why shouldn't I be able to legitimately and legally use my handicapped placard if we travel over to Ohio? To the best of my knowledge, there is reciprocity in all 50 states for handicapped plates and placards. And, as others have said, a placard is dependent on the individual, not the vehicle.
I recently went into Canada and asked the Canadian customs agent if my U.S. handicapped placard was valid in their country. He laughed at me and said that Canada would not want the U.S. news reporting how a handicapped American citizen was ticketed in Canada for using their American placard in a Canadian handicapped parking spot. He told me not to worry about it since why shouldn't I be able to use it? Granted, that was not necessarily a legal opinion but it certainly made sense.

most states will consider another states tag valid as long as it isn't expired. think of where people live close to state lines.

Michael, often police officers use that excuse. The truth is that in most states police officers certainly can and should write citations for accessible parking violations anywhere the violation occurs...even on private property. Its true that in some states officers cannot write general parking tickets without the request of the property owner or manager but accessible parking is prescribed by most state laws to be enforced anywhere.

Um..Leonard WTF are you trying to say? All I can say is the two people above have it right. A placard is associated with a driver AND his/her drivers license. Not a vehicle. Have you ever seen a motorcycle with a handicapped plate? I have! No the numbers and or letters are not always the same. Some States do it that way. Not all do though. The biggest problem I have found is the police can not ticket on private property. Like the parking lot at your favorite restaurant. Notice I said "Parking Lot". I'm not talking in the street. They can only do so if the owner/manager says to do so. It's BS.

I always take my tag with me in any vehicle I drive. no else is supposed to use it regardless. that that needs to be addressed to the people loaning the car out with handicap pass left I that car.

Was meaning to mention the expired tags as mentioned in second comment. and report, not as in ticketing, just data. many use black market tags from other states and have both same (tx)state plates and (tx)drivers lic. If needing tag could easily replace with hangtag that matches driver license and plates.

It is legal. Cause a disability tag is associated with a person not the registered vehicle. Just like other states honor out if state drivers license so to do they honor out of sate disability tags. As long as not expired

A hang tag is associated with a person not a specific vehicle. Just as a drivers license is hindered no mater what state you are in so is a disability car tag.
